I Made It

The Courageous Pen   ·   March 16, 2009

Robin writes:
Twenty five months I made it to the end. It hasn’t been easy; there were many times I wanted to quit, but something kept bringing me back. Thank God I did, I would have missed out on the experience of a lifetime. There have been many days I dreamt of this moment, and here it is. [...]

The Journey

The Courageous Pen   ·   March 16, 2009

Ray writes:
Four years ago my life had taken a turn for the worst. I was married and had a child. I had quit a promising job and left my wife. Not able to handle my decisions, I turned to drugs and then to crime. By 2006 I was looking at jail time or a rehab [...]

A Different Life

The Courageous Pen   ·   March 16, 2009

M.C. writes:
I spent many months if not years praying for a different life.
Something I would remember without regret.  Although the majority of my experiences left not only myself but my family with painful memories.  The prayer was answered. And I found myself home at Caritas.  The way I feel towards life and the immeasurable [...]

Old Me Versus New

The Courageous Pen   ·   March 16, 2009

Derek writes:
Haiku:
Old me versus new
The Bigger man always win

*Sometimes I think by myself about the good times we shared [...]

Daniele writes:
Dear reader, I am 38 years of age and been here in Caritas around 18 months. At this stage in my therapy I am learning and practicing daily life skills to become an independent and self-sufficient person. I often ponder if I have learned enough to be equipped for my future. Future plans are [...]

Inner Peace

The Courageous Pen   ·   March 16, 2009

Curt writes:
I have been at Caritas for 17 months. Up here at King City I have found the spirit I had imprisoned with the use of drugs. With the beautiful scenery, the animals up at the barn, the work-therapy, and groups which often go deep into an individual’s behaviours and thinking process. I [...]

Standing Still

The Courageous Pen   ·   March 16, 2009

Cian writes:
Life is a race, while most of us are running towards something there are those who are running away from something. I could be found in the latter group. Not knowing or more accurately not wanting to deal with my reality, my pain, myself…I ran. And when you run for a long [...]

Together in Harmony

The Courageous Pen   ·   March 16, 2009

Chris writes:
Through all the struggles that I go through in here, and for all the times that it feels like too much and I want to run away I remember that through this experience and journey I have got my family back. Not only that but I am on the path to getting [...]
