It all started in high school when I first started smoking marijuana but I know now it goes deeper than that. During those years I wanted to be accepted so I went with the flow and didn’t realize where I would end up. I never was used to repressing those feelings towards anyone, even my family. I’ve become hurt in past relationships and, because I felt that pain, I closed myself completely. During the years I also became co-dependent on my family and really didn’t become my own person. Four years ago when my grandfather passed away, it put me in a bad spot. I gave up on myself and others and started using heavier drugs. Coming to Caritas is teaching me to be aware when a situation arises and that I need to change my past behaviour that led me to using drugs. It’s going to change my old self into an independent, healthier, better person.
The duration of the program is 25 months and it is offered as a complete experience in 4 phases. Caritas has both urban and rural settings: The main Centre and residences located in North Toronto, and the 90 acre farm and spiritual Centre, located approximately 25 minutes north of the Centre.
