Dear reader, I am 38 years of age and been here in Caritas around 18 months. At this stage in my therapy I am learning and practicing daily life skills to become an independent and self-sufficient person. I often ponder if I have learned enough to be equipped for my future. Future plans are always plaguing my mind and the anxiety starts to surface for reasons like fear of the unknown and the future which I am looking forward towards. I keep reminding myself that my thoughts and feelings are my own and I am always looking for means of dealing with those inner emotions. The best way that I’ve been taught in dealing with myself is by doing deep introspective reflections. These reflections require me to look deep within myself and to keep an open and sincere inventory of myself. I also have to be very objective of my self-assessment so I can be aware of areas I need to continue to improve. I truly have to thank the teachings, staff and all my peers at Caritas for without them my brain, heart and soul would never have found the harmony to work together.
There are two phrases that have stuck in my mind and have helped me accept and love myself…
You alone must do it, but you alone can’t.
The soul would have no rainbow, had the eyes no tears.
The duration of the program is 25 months and it is offered as a complete experience in 4 phases. Caritas has both urban and rural settings: The main Centre and residences located in North Toronto, and the 90 acre farm and spiritual Centre, located approximately 25 minutes north of the Centre.
