The Journey

March 16, 2009

Ray writes:

Four years ago my life had taken a turn for the worst. I was married and had a child. I had quit a promising job and left my wife. Not able to handle my decisions, I turned to drugs and then to crime. By 2006 I was looking at jail time or a rehab program. My family, whom I’ve destroyed over the years, gave my a chance to seek treatment, and so I came here to Caritas. In my first year, I had a lot of “walls” to breakdown, which were my dysfunctional thoughts and behaviours. Slowly my thoughts and feelings started to change, and at times I was reluctant because I could not see the other side. But with the help from the coordinators they showed me the “way” like Jesus did in the Footprints story. Even now I’m learning more about myself. It gets painful at times and also very important to face my reality that my inner child stopped growing at some point. Here at Caritas I have the ability to allow my inner child to grow and flourish. Naturally, I have stumbled along the way ,and thankfully I can practice my vulnerability, respect and love unconditionally. Achieving these goals have and will take a lot of effort, effort that is needed to save me and the rest of my life. Two years into my journey, I can admit it has been difficult to obtain, and I will not give up because I found someone to live for and that’s me.
