Beautiful Struggle

The Courageous Pen   ·   March 20, 2009

Evgene writes:
At the age of 17, I started experimenting with marijuana. No traumatic event, pain, or depression lead me into smoking my first joint, but obviously there was something missing within. Without even realizing it, I was running out of ways to fill that void. Drugs seemed to do the trick, or [...]

Imagine

The Courageous Pen   ·   March 20, 2009

Colin writes:
When presented with the idea to write a brief summary of my life I pondered the thought of what I could say or possibly have to offer anyone. The promise that it might be read aloud or even printed brings no interest to my mind, although to reflect on the idea that I might [...]

The Road of Purpose

The Courageous Pen   ·   March 20, 2009

Vince writes:
It all started in high school when I first started smoking marijuana but I know now it goes deeper than that. During those years I wanted to be accepted so I went with the flow and didn’t realize where I would end up. I never was used to repressing those feelings towards [...]

Purpose

The Courageous Pen   ·   March 20, 2009

Steve writes:
Growing up was really difficult for me. My father was abusive with me and my mother. My teachers at school all knew, and when I would get in trouble, all I thought about was what my dad was going to do to me. My first escape of my reality was basketball. [...]

Stop and Think

The Courageous Pen   ·   March 20, 2009

Rob writes:
Living an addictive lifestyle is not easy. It’s a place of pain and a place where dreams become nightmares. I lived this nightmare for ten years of my precious life. It’s a heartbreaking journey in total darkness. I came from a place where hurting others emotionally was done continuously so I [...]

J.C. writes:
I am willing to change, and the change has started in me. I want to be a part of something big, something courageous. I want to be a part of an elite group that conquers addiction. I am proud to be a part of this journey of life through Caritas – [...]

This Life of Mine

The Courageous Pen   ·   March 20, 2009

Cian writes:
My story is a lot like many others. Stereotypical, if you will, of an ‘addict’. However, I reckon it is unique because it is my story and mine alone. Dysfunctional within the family – check…Abuse within the home – check…the inevitable ‘broken home’ – check…self loathing, self abuse, self destruction – check, check, check!!! [...]

Together in Harmony

The Courageous Pen   ·   March 20, 2009

Chris writes:
I started experimenting with cigarettes at the age of twelve. I did it because I thought it was the cool thing to do. At the age of fifteen, I took my first line of cocaine. Through the next eight years I did whatever I had to do to get my drugs. [...]

Motherly Love

The Courageous Pen   ·   March 16, 2009

Tom writes:

You became a single mother when I was only two,

You’d put tender, love and care into everything that you’d do!

To try to raise me right, and teach me day from night,

But I saw black when you saw white, and I’d always put up a fight!

A Second Chance

The Courageous Pen   ·   March 16, 2009

Steve writes:
My life was a real mess before I came to Caritas. I was lost and hopeless, but as the days go by I truly feel it is a thing of the past now. I’m starting to feel the change within my heart. I really feel blessed to have this second chance in life. I [...]
